Organisation of the Parliament

The Parliament of the French Community has 94 members (75 + 19) coming from regional Parliaments :

  • 75 members of the Walloon Parliament

All members of the Parliament are automatically member of the Parliament of the French Community.

  • 19 members of the French language group of the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital region

These 19 members are elected by and from within this group. They should be proportionally distributed in accordance with the results of the French-Speaking electoral lists at the elections of the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region.

The members of the Parliament of the French Community are elected for a period of five years; the elections happen at the same time as the European elections.

As a consequence of the mode of constitution of the Parliament of the French Community, its members exert at least two mandates, a regional one and a Community one.

The members of the Walloon Parliament or the members of the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region who, as a consequence of incompatibility, cannot exert their mandate at the Parliament of the French Community are replaced by deputy members.
