Understanding the different types of adoption
EN - FR
Description
On the one hand, we distinguish :
- Intercountry adoption: this involves adopting a child who is to be or has been moved from his or her country of origin to Belgium, after adoption or with a view to being adopted there.
- Internal adoption: conversely, this involves adopting a child, resident in Belgium, who has not been displaced from his or her country of origin.
On the other hand, a distinction is made between :
- Extra-familial adoption(out-of-home adoption): this involves adopting a child you do not know at the beginning of your adoption project.
- Intra-family adoption: this involves adopting a child with whom you are already related or familiar at the beginning of your adoption project (subject to certain conditions relating to the way in which the child has become familiar).
