Following the matching stage in the case of an internal adoption

EN - FR

Description

The certificate issued at the end of the preparation stage enables you to apply directly to an Approved Adoption Organisation (OAA) for internal adoption, i.e. the adoption of a child who resides in Belgium.

The OAA (Organisme d’Adoption Agréé) will examine the admissibility of your application, taking into account various factors, including the law of your country of nationality, criminal record, and the number of children for whom a family is being sought. If your application is admissible, the OAA will carry out a psycho-medico-social examination of your application. If your application is accepted, an agreement is signed with the OAA.

When you accept a proposal for a child, the organisation prepares you for the arrival of this child and guides you through the adoption procedure with the competent Family Court.

Key points

  • All adoptions must be supervised by an OAA.
  • You are free to choose the OAA you want.
  • A small number of internal out-of-home adoption projects are taking place due to the low number of children who can be adopted through this type of adoption.
  • In the case of internal adoption, the consent of the child, if over 12 years of age, and of a legal parent (or parents), if any, will be requested by the Family Court Judge.
