Choosing to enrol my recently immigrated child in a DASPA (reception and schooling system for recent arrivals and assimilated pupils)
Description
Some nursery, primary or secondary schools receive pupils from foreign countries who find themselves in an unfamiliar education system without prior schooling or knowledge of the French language.
These pupils need targeted support to ensure that can enjoy the same opportunities for empowerment through education as other pupils.
Conditions
If your child is between 2.5 and 18 years old and arrived in the national territory less than a year ago, he or she can be enrolled in a reception and schooling system for recent arrivals and assimilated pupils, known as a DASPA, for a variable period of time.
During this period, your child will benefit from specific guidance enabling him or her to adapt to and integrate into the Belgian socio-cultural context and school system. He or she can then be directed towards the education best suited to him or her.
Advantages
A DASPA is an intermediate stage of schooling which may last up to two years and during which pupils benefit from intensive teaching of French and courses relating to the humanities, mathematics, science and philosophy and citizenship.
