You are a fully qualified teacher in a Member State of the EEA or Switzerland and you wish to teach in the school system of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation?

You can apply for professional recognition for working in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. A professional recognition decision allows you to practice your teaching profession and teach the subjects for which you are qualified under the same conditions as teachers trained in Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

Fully qualified teachers with one or several professional qualifications acquired in a Member State of the European Economic Area or Switzerland, namely:

Teachers of basic, secondary and higher education who wish to teach in the Wallonia – Brussels Federation.

Conditions

You can apply for a professional recognition of your teaching qualifications if:

You are a fully qualified teacher in one of the countries of the European Economic Area and you are nationals of the EEA;
You wish to work as a teacher in a school of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

Example: you are a mathematics teacher in Spain and you want to practice this profession under the same conditions that apply to teachers trained in Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

Procedure

The procedure requires that we have a certain amount of information related to your qualifications. The purpose of this information is to establish:

on what basis you are a fully qualified teacher (diploma alone, diploma and professional examination, etc.);
disciplines that you are fully qualified to teach (e.g.: mathematics, history, etc.);
the different age groups you are fully qualified to teach, namely:
- preschool (3-6 years);
- primary (6-12 years);
- lower secondary (12-15 years);
- upper secondary school (15-18 years);
- higher education (+ 18 years old).

Your application will be submitted to a specialized expert body, namely the Commission des titres pour l 'accès aux fonctions enseignantes. The experts of this Commission have to verify to what extent the foreign qualification and related professional activities can be recognized in our system.

You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt no later than one month after receipt of your request by the administration.

We will notify you of the decision within 3 to 4 months from the moment your file is complete.
